슬픔 속에서도 미소를 지어야만 하는 감정노동자의 애환을 담은 포스터 작업. 이 촬영은 마치 수직 낙하하던 송골매가 수면에 처박히기 직전, 다시 물을 박차고 하늘로 치솟는 듯한 극적인 감정선을 포착해야 하는 고난도의 연출이었습니다. 몇 시간의 사전 준비와 깊은 감정이입이 필수적이었으며, 원하는 단 하나의 찰나를 잡기 위해 온 힘을 쏟아야 했습니다.

배우들을 촬영하다 보면 깊은 감정의 이면으로 내려가다가도 결코 무너지지 않으려는 경계면을 마주하곤 합니다. 이른바 ‘예쁨선’. 연예인으로서의 품위와 매력을 지키기 위해 스스로 쳐놓은 방어막이자 연기의 마지노선입니다. 그 선을 넘으면 이상적인 스타의 이미지가 깨질 수 있기 때문입니다. 하지만 간혹 그 선마저 과감히 부수고 날것의 표현을 감행하는 진짜 배우들을 만납니다.

캐릭터의 사실적인 표현을 위해 어쩔 수 없이 그 선을 넘어야 할 때가 있지만, 연출가로서 저는 CG 등의 기술적 지원을 통해서라도 그들의 아름다움을 최대한 지켜주려 노력합니다. 불난 건물에서 뛰어내릴 때 에어매트가 있다는 확실한 믿음이 있어야 배우도 두려움 없이 자신을 온전히 던질 수 있기 때문입니다.

This poster photoshoot captures the raw sorrow of emotional laborers who must force a smile through their tears. The direction demanded a dramatic emotional arc—reminiscent of a falcon in a vertical dive, pulling upward at the absolute last second just before crashing into the water. It was an incredibly challenging process that required hours of meticulous preparation and deep emotional immersion; the perfect, fleeting moment we sought would never happen twice.

When photographing attractive actors, I often encounter a psychological boundary during their performance—a depth below which they refuse to submerge. I call this the "Pretty Line." It is a self-imposed defense mechanism and a creative threshold designed to preserve their dignity and charm as stars. Crossing it means shattering the idealized image they have built.

Yet, I have occasionally witnessed true actors who boldly shatter that boundary to deliver raw, unfiltered expressions. While I wish to respect that line, the realistic demands of a role sometimes require them to cross it. When they do, I make it my mission to protect their image as much as possible through post-production and visual effects. An actor can only leap fearlessly from a burning building when they have absolute trust that a safety air mattress is waiting below.
