○ 환경운동연합, 강원환경운동연합, 동강서강보존회, 이제석 광고연구소는 2000년 6월 5일 단행된 영월 동강댐 백지화 선언의 20주년을 기념하고 그 의미를 계승하고자 본 퍼포먼스를 진행했습니다. 강원도 영월의 동강은 기암절벽과 천연기념물의 보고로서 생태학적 가치가 매우 높은 곳입니다. 1997년 정부의 댐 건설 계획 발표 이후 지역 주민과 시민단체의 치열한 반대 운동이 이어졌고, 결국 2000년 환경의 날을 맞아 댐 건설 계획이 전면 취소되면서 동강의 온전한 모습을 지켜낼 수 있었습니다.

○ 기자회견에서 선보인 대형 종이배 퍼포먼스 ‘뗏목에서 종이배로!’는 이제석 광고연구소와의 협업으로 기획·제작되었습니다. 20년 전 동강 지키기 운동 당시 강 위에 뗏목을 띄우며 전개했던 투쟁 중심의 시위를, 신세대 환경운동가들이 현대적 정서에 맞춰 한층 부드럽고 감각적인 문화 퍼포먼스 형식으로 재해석하여 선보였습니다.

○ The Korean Federation for Environmental Movements (KFEM), Gangwon KFEM, the Donggang-Seogang Preservation Association, and Jeski Social Campaign staged this performance to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the cancellation of the Donggang Dam project, which was officially declared on June 5, 2000. Located in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, the Donggang River is an ecological treasure trove filled with breathtaking cliffs and natural monuments. Following the government's 1997 announcement of the dam construction plan, fierce opposition from local residents and civic groups led to the complete scrapping of the project on Environment Day in 2000, successfully preserving the river.

○ The large-scale paper boat performance, titled "From Raft to Paper Boat!", was co-planned and produced with Jeski Social Campaign. Reinterpreting the historic Donggang preservation movement—where activists originally floated wooden rafts down the river in protest—this performance brings a modern sensibility to environmental activism. A new generation of environmentalists has transformed the traditional protest into a softer, more artistic, and emotionally resonant cultural performance.

○ 이날 퍼포먼스는 동강댐 백지화 운동 당시의 뗏목 시위를 오마주하여, 새하얀 종이배를 통해 한강에서 이루어진 당시 운동의 정신과 의미를 되새기고 향후
환경운동연합의 물순환 운동 ‘LOVE FLOWS’의 밝은 미래를 계승하며, 서울 시민들을 대상으로 동강댐 백지화의 성과와 의미에 대해 알리는 날이 되었다.

○ 한국 환경운동의 명맥을 계승하는 의미를 다지기 위해 1세대 선배 환경운동가들과 현재 활동 중인 후배 환경운동가들이 함께 모여 의미를 나누는 뜻깊은 시간이 되었다.
