랜드아트는 단순히 땅 위에 조형물이나 조경을 설치하는 것을 넘어, 

땅(지면) 그 자체를 마치 찰흙을 빚듯이 다루어 표현하는 거대한 규모의 

조각 예술 장르입니다.

마치 거대한 조물주나 미지의 존재가 지구에 내려와 흔적을 남겨놓은 듯한 

이색적인 공간은 단순한 볼거리를 넘어, 시민들에게 휴식과 놀이를 제공하는 

특별한 정원이자 공공 공간으로 기능합니다.

Land Art is a large-scale form of sculpture that goes beyond placing objects 

or landscaping on the ground. 

It treats the land itself as the artwork, shaping and forming it like clay.

These unique places can feel as if a giant creator or an unknown being came 

down to Earth and left its mark behind.

More than just something interesting to look at, they serve as special gardens 

and public spaces where people can relax, play, and enjoy their time.

해외 랜드아트 사례 _Land Art Cases  

대지 면적이 상대적으로 좁은 지역에서는 쉽게 시도하기 어려운 

장르이지만, 넓은 대지를 활용할 수 있는 해외 여러 지역에서는 

이러한 대형 규모의 대지예술이 지금도 과감하게 시도되고 있으며, 

랜드마크이자 관광 명소로 많은 사랑을 받고 있습니다.

This type of art is difficult to create in places where land is limited. 

However, in many parts of the world with large open spaces, 

bold large-scale Land Art projects are still being created today. 

Many of them have become famous landmarks and popular tourist attractions.

Land Art Design Approaches 

땅이라는 거대한 재료를 이용해 조각을 만드는 방법은 다양하지만, 

랜드아트의 가장 큰 매력은 인공적인 구조물을 세우기보다 

땅 그 자체가 지닌 질감과 특성을 최대한 살리는 데 있습니다.

땅 위에 자라는 풀과 나무, 자연스럽게 놓인 바위, 그리고 땅속과 

지표면에 형성된 지형은 모두 랜드아트를 구성하는 중요한 요소입니다.

따라서 가장 이상적인 랜드아트는 인위적인 개입을 최소화하고, 

마치 원래부터 그 자리에 존재했던 것처럼 땅 자체가 

작품으로 완성되는 모습이라 할 수 있습니다.

There are many ways to sculpt with the land as a material. 

However, the true beauty of Land Art comes from preserving 

the natural texture and character of the land, rather than building 

artificial structures. Grass, trees, rocks, and the natural shapes 

of the land are all important elements of Land Art. 

The ideal Land Art work uses as little artificial intervention as possible, 

allowing the land itself to become the artwork, as if it has always been there.

랜드아트 컨셉 모음 (2019~현재 자체 개발중) 

Land Art Concept Collection (2019–Present) 

저희 연구소는 공간 디자인과 공간을 활용한 브랜딩·홍보에 

특화된 창작 조직으로, 오랜 기간 공공장소와 민간 사업 공간을 새롭게 

변화시키고 가치를 높이는 프로젝트를 수행해 왔습니다.

그러던 중 2019년, 지역의 한 선사유적공원 홍보 프로젝트를 진행하면서 

땅속에 묻혀 있는 토층과 유물의 이야기를 지상으로 드러내어 보여줄 

수 있는 방법을 고민하게 되었습니다. 

그 과정에서 단순히 전시물을 설치하는 것을 넘어, 땅 자체를 자르고, 찢고, 

조형하여 그 아래 숨겨진 역사와 이야기를 시각적으로 표현하는 작업을 

시작하게 되었으며, 이는 본격적인 랜드아트 연구와 창작의 출발점이 되었습니다.

Our studio is a creative organization specializing in spatial design 

and place-based branding. For many years, we have worked on 

projects that renew and improve public spaces and private properties. 

In 2019, while promoting a local prehistoric heritage park, 

we began looking for ways to reveal the stories hidden beneath the ground, 

including soil layers and archaeological remains. 

During this process, we moved beyond simply installing displays 

and started shaping the land itself—cutting, carving, and forming 

the ground to bring hidden history and stories to the surface. 

This became the starting point of our Land Art research and creative work.

저희는 땅의 표면이 찢어지고, 갈라지고, 솟아오르는 듯한 형상을 통해 대중에게 

새로운 예술적 경험을 제공하고자 합니다. 이러한 작품은 단순한 볼거리를 

넘어 벤치와 그늘막 등 다양한 편의시설의 기능을 수행할 수 있으며, 

땅속에 매립된 영상 장치나 세밀한 조각, 미니어처 전시물 등을 더욱 인상적이고 

효과적으로 전달하는 역할도 합니다.

현재 저희는 랜드아트를 통해 예술성과 기능성을 결합하고, 땅 아래 숨겨진 이야기와 

콘텐츠를 대중에게 강렬하게 전달하는 다양한 방법을 연구하고 있습니다.

We explore forms that make the ground appear torn, cracked, 

or rising from the earth. These works create unique visual experiences 

for the public.

They are more than artworks. They can also function as benches, 

shade structures, and other public facilities. In addition, 

they can help present underground video displays, 

detailed sculptures, and miniature exhibits in a more powerful and 

memorable way. 

We are currently researching how Land Art can combine art and function 

while bringing hidden stories and content beneath the ground to

the public in a strong and engaging way.

공간 효율성:  Underground-Stored Land Art

땅속에 수납해 두었다가 필요할 때만 꺼내 사용하는 공간 절약형 조각 시스템

대부분의 랜드아트 작품이 사막이나 넓은 초원과 같은 장소에 조성된 이유는 

결국 공간의 문제와 깊은 관련이 있습니다.

도시화가 진행된 지역일수록 공간은 가장 귀하고 값비싼 자원입니다. 

조형물이든 편의시설이든 지상에 설치되는 순간 일정 면적을 점유하게 되며, 

그 공간은 더 이상 다른 용도로 활용될 수 없습니다. 또한 지면을 점유하는 

시설물은 통행에 영향을 주고 시야를 가리며, 그 공간을 이용하는 사람들에게 

크고 작은 기회비용과 물리적 제약을 발생시키게 됩니다.

이에 저희 연구소는 이러한 공간 문제를 해결하기 위해 자체 개발한 

지하 매립형 장치를 연구해 왔습니다. 이 장치는 평상시에는 지면 아래에 완전히 

수납되어 주변 환경과 동일한 평평한 바닥 상태를 유지하다가, 

필요할 때에만 지상으로 상승하여 조형물이나 편의시설, 전시 장치로 

기능하는 방식입니다. 이를 통해 평소에는 공간을 점유하지 않으면서도, 

필요에 따라 예술 작품과 휴식 시설, 다양한 콘텐츠를 제공할 수 있는 

새로운 형태의 공간 집약형 랜드아트를 구현하고자 합니다.

Most Land Art works have been created in deserts or wide open fields

because they require a large amount of space.

In cities, space is one of the most valuable resources. Any sculpture, 

structure, or public facility placed on the ground occupies land that 

could be used for other purposes.

It can also affect movement, block views, and create different kinds of 

costs and limitations for people using the space.

To address this challenge, our studio has developed an underground 

installation system. Most of the time, the system remains hidden 

below the ground, 

allowing the surface to stay flat and open. Only when needed does it 

rise above the ground and function as a sculpture, public facility, 

or exhibition element.

This approach makes it possible to provide art, public amenities, 

and cultural experiences without permanently occupying valuable 

urban space. It offers a new form of space-efficient, 

underground-based Land Art.

동력형 랜드아트 「움직이는 땅」

Moving Land Art: "Moving Land" 

저희가 개발한 동력형 랜드아트 「움직이는 땅」은 넓은 사막이나 초원이 아닌 

도심의 작은 공간에서도 구현될 수 있습니다.

작품은 평소에는 지하에 숨겨져 있다가 필요할 때만 지상으로 나타나기 때문에

공간을 효율적으로 활용할 수 있습니다.

이러한 움직임은 산업용 유압 리프트 시스템을 통해 구현됩니다.

수 톤에 달하는 무게를 정교하게 제어할 수 있으며, 수만 회의 반복 작동에도 

견딜 수 있는 높은 내구성을 갖추고 있습니다.

관람객은 직접 리모컨이나 제어 장치를 통해 작품을 작동시킬 수 있으며, 

자신의 손끝에서 육중한 대지가 갈라지고 솟아오르는 모습을 경험하게 됩니다. 

경우에 따라서는 작품 위에 직접 탑승할 수도 있습니다.

「움직이는 땅」은 움직이는 조각이자 체험형 랜드아트로서, 대지 자체를 새로운 

볼거리와 놀이의 공간으로 변화시키는 프로젝트입니다.

“Moving Land” is a kinetic Land Art project that can be installed even 

in small urban spaces, without the need for large deserts or open fields. 

The artwork normally stays hidden underground and rises above the

surface only when needed, allowing the space to remain open and efficient.

Its movement is powered by an industrial hydraulic lift system. 

The technology can precisely move several tons of weight and is designed 

to withstand tens of thousands of operating cycles.

Visitors can activate the artwork through a remote control or interactive 

system and watch the ground split, rise, and transform before their eyes. 

In some cases, visitors can even stand or ride on the moving structure.

“Moving Land” is both a moving sculpture and an interactive 

Land Art experience, transforming the ground itself into a place of wonder, 

play, and discovery.

동력장치 작동 유형_ Movement Types

「움직이는 땅」은 솟아오르거나 내려앉을 수도 있고, 갈라지거나 회전할 수도 

있습니다. 기술적으로는 다양한 형태의 움직임을 구현할 수 있지만, 

중요한 것은 단순한 움직임 자체가 아니라 그 움직임에 담긴 의미입니다.

작품의 움직임은 설치 장소의 특성과 주최 측의 정체성, 철학, 그리고 

전달하고자 하는 메시지에 따라 설계됩니다. 따라서 움직임은 단순한 기계적 

동작이 아니라, 작품이 관람객과 소통하는 또 하나의 언어가 됩니다.

예를 들어 천천히 솟아오르는 움직임은 성장과 도약을, 갈라지며 열리는 

움직임은 발견과 개방을, 회전하는 움직임은 변화와 순환을 상징할 수 있습니다.

다만 공간 활용 측면에서는 수직 상승·하강 방식이 가장 효율적입니다. 

평소에는 지면 아래에 완전히 수납될 수 있어 공간 점유가 최소화되며, 

움직임 또한 직관적이어서 어린이와 가족 단위 방문객들에게 특히 

높은 관심과 호응을 얻을 수 있습니다.

“Moving Land” can rise, sink, split apart, or rotate. 

Almost any type of movement is possible. However, the movement is 

not designed simply for motion itself—it is designed to communicate meaning.

Each movement is carefully developed according to the character of 

the site and the values, identity, and message of the organization 

behind the project. In this way, movement becomes a language that 

helps the artwork communicate with the public.

For example, a rising movement may symbolize growth and progress, 

an opening movement may represent discovery and openness, 

and a rotating movement may suggest change and continuity.

Among the available options, vertical lifting and lowering is often the 

most efficient. It requires the least amount of space, allows the artwork 

to remain fully hidden underground when not in use, 

and is especially popular with children and families because of 

its clear and dramatic motion.

Production Process – Part A: Sculpture

작가의 상상 속에서는 실제 대지를 들어 올리고, 자르고, 움직일 수 

있다면 더없이 흥미로운 일이겠지만, 현실적인 시공과 안전을 

위해서는 구조의 경량화가 필요합니다. 

따라서 작품에는 동력장치가 작동할 수 있도록 설계된 인공 자연 지형이 

사용됩니다. 이 과정에는 극사실주의 표현에 특화된 조각가들이 참여하여, 

육안으로는 실제 자연과 구별하기 어려울 정도로 정교한 지형과 

자연물을 제작합니다. 완성된 결과물은 인공적으로 제작된 조형물이지만, 

그 질감과 표현을 위해 실제 흙, 풀, 나무뿌리, 암석 등 자연에서 얻은 

재료와 표본을 적극적으로 활용합니다.

그 결과 작품은 움직일 수 있는 구조물인 동시에, 실제 자연의 질감과 

분위기를 담아낸 또 하나의 작은 풍경으로 완성됩니다.

In an artist’s imagination, it would be exciting to lift, cut, and 

move the actual land itself. However, for practical construction 

and safety, the artwork must be lightweight enough to work with 

mechanical systems.

For this reason, the project uses carefully crafted artificial landscapes 

designed for movement. Expert sculptors with advanced hyper-realistic 

skills create terrain and natural forms that are often difficult to distinguish 

from real nature with the naked eye.

Although the final work is a constructed model, its textures and details 

are based on real natural materials. Soil, grass, roots, rocks, 

and other elements from nature are studied and incorporated to achieve 

a highly realistic appearance.

The result is a movable landscape that combines engineering, sculpture,

and the visual character of real nature.

조형물 적용 예시_ Sculpture Examples

「움직이는 땅」의 표면은 자연 그대로의 질감과 형태를 표현하는 것만으로도 

완성될 수 있습니다. 그러나 예술적 감상을 원하는 관람객들을 위해, 땅의 일부를 

입체 조각이나 반입체 부조 형태로 구성할 수도 있습니다. 

바위를 직접 깎아 만든 듯한 카빙 조각, 흙을 빚어 만든 샌드아트 형상의 조형물, 

또는 오랜 세월 땅속에 묻혀 있던 역사적 유물과 보물을 상징적으로 재현하는 등 

다양한 예술적 표현이 가능합니다. 이처럼 「움직이는 땅」은 단순한 지형의 

변화에 머무르지 않고, 자연과 역사, 예술과 이야기를 함께 담아내는 

입체적인 캔버스로 활용될 수 있습니다.

The surface of “Moving Land” can be presented in its most natural form, 

expressing the raw textures and shapes of the earth itself. However, 

for those who appreciate art, parts of the landscape can also be 

transformed into sculptural works.

The ground may feature carved rock-like sculptures, relief artworks, 

sand-art-inspired forms shaped from earth, or symbolic representations 

of historical artifacts and treasures hidden beneath the ground for centuries.

In this way, “Moving Land” becomes more than a changing landscape. 

It serves as a three-dimensional canvas that brings together 

nature, history, art, and storytelling.

자연의 질감과 형태만으로도 충분히 감동을 줄 수 있지만, 보다 풍부한 경험을 

원하는 관람객들을 위해 최신 영상 및 사운드 시스템을 함께 적용할 수 있습니다.

바위 표면에 애니메이션이나 영상을 투사하거나, 조각의 움직임에 맞추어 

음악과 음향 효과가 연동되는 기술은 이미 널리 활용되고 있는 기술입니다. 

비록 이러한 기술 자체가 새로운 것은 아니지만, 랜드아트 작품에 적용될 경우 

작품의 이야기를 더욱 효과적으로 전달하고 관람객의 몰입감을 높이는 역할을 합니다.

 「움직이는 땅」은 조각과 자연, 기술과 이야기가 결합된 더욱 풍부한 경험을 

제공할 수 있습니다.

Natural textures and forms can be powerful on their own, but for 

visitors seeking a richer experience, the artwork can also incorporate

advanced video and sound systems.

Animations and visual content can be projected onto rock surfaces, 

while music and sound effects can be synchronized with the 

movement of the sculpture. 

These technologies are already widely available and are no longer 

surprising by themselves, but they can greatly enhance the impact of 

a Land Art installation.

“Moving Land” can offer a deeper and more engaging experience for the public.

「움직이는 땅」의 가장 큰 장점은 표현의 한계가 거의 없다는 점입니다. 

땅이 움직이고 모습을 드러낸다는 기본 구조만 유지된다면, 그 위에 구현되는 

형태와 이야기는 얼마든지 달라질 수 있습니다. 특히 기업이나 기관의 경우, 

자신의 정체성과 비전, 핵심 가치를 상징물로 제작하여 작품 속에 담아낼 수 있습니다.

조경적 요소를 적극적으로 결합할 수 있습니다.

작품 내부에 실제 토양과 식재 기반을 조성하여 꽃과 나무, 다양한 식물이 

자랄 수 있도록 설계할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 작품 자체가 하나의 살아있는 

풍경이자 거대한 움직이는 정원이 됩니다.

또한 견고한 구조와 산업용 구동 시스템을 바탕으로 수 톤에 달하는 토양과 

식생을 안정적으로 지지할 수 있으며, 강우로 인한 수분 유입까지 고려한 

방수·배수 설계가 가능합니다. 

필요에 따라 관수 시스템을 함께 적용하여 식물의 생육 환경까지 관리할 수 

있습니다. 그 결과 「움직이는 땅」은 단순한 조형물이 아니라, 실제 자연이 

자라고 변화하는 살아있는 랜드아트이자 움직이는 정원으로 구현될 수 있습니다.

Nothing can truly replace the beauty of living flowers, trees, and plants. 

For this reason, “Moving Land” can combine landscape design with 

Land Art, placing even greater emphasis on living nature.

The structure can be designed with real soil and planting systems, 

allowing flowers, trees, and other vegetation to grow directly on the artwork. 

This transforms the piece into a living landscape and a giant moving garden.

Its durable structure and industrial lifting system can safely support 

several tons of soil and vegetation. The installation can also include 

waterproofing, drainage, and irrigation systems to ensure reliable 

operation even after rainfall and to support healthy plant growth.

As a result, “Moving Land” can become more than a sculpture—

it can function as a living Land Art installation where nature continues

to grow, change, and move.

어차피 만들어야 하는 의무적인 공간을 브랜드 자산으로 탈바꿈할 수 있습니다.

그러나 많은 공개공지가 단순한 통로나 형식적인 휴게공간에 머무르는 경우도 

적지 않습니다. 「움직이는 땅」은 이러한 공간에 새로운 가능성을 제안합니다. 

평소에는 공간을 차지하지 않다가 필요할 때만 모습을 드러내는 랜드아트와 

조경 시설을 통해, 자칫 방치되거나 형식적으로 운영될 수 있는 공개공지를 문화와 

예술, 자연이 공존하는 시민 참여형 공간으로 탈바꿈시킬 수 있습니다.

이는 시민들에게는 휴식과 즐거움을 제공하고, 공간의 주인인 기업과 기관에는 

차별화된 브랜드 경험과 긍정적인 이미지를 제공하는 새로운 형태의 

공공예술 플랫폼이 될 수 있습니다.

Even a small piece of unused land in a dense concrete city can become 

an oasis through “Moving Land,” offering people a refreshing place to

Many modern buildings are required to provide publicly accessible open 

spaces. Yet these areas are often underused or treated as simple walkways 

and resting zones. “Moving Land” offers a new approach. 

By combining Land Art, landscape design, and movable installations 

that appear only when needed, ordinary public spaces can be 

transformed into vibrant places filled with nature, culture, and interaction.

The result is a space that benefits everyone: a memorable destination for 

citizens and a powerful branding asset for the companies and institutions

These works are more than visual attractions. They can also serve 

as public amenities such as benches, shade structures, and resting 

spaces. More importantly,they remain hidden underground most of 

the time and appear only when needed. 

This allows the space to stay open while providing art and public 

functions whenever visitors choose to use them.

무빙 랜드아트 설치 조건 

Installation Requirements  

바닥을 활용한 설치 방식의 경우, 최소 1m 이상의 터파기 공사가 가능한 깊이의 

토양층이 확보되어야 합니다. 만약 지하 매립이 어려운 환경이라면, 

일정 높이 이상의 인공 언덕이나 화단을 조성한 뒤 그 내부에 동력장치와 조각 

구조물을 설치하는 방식도 가능합니다.

또한 「움직이는 땅」은 반드시 바닥면에만 설치될 필요가 없습니다. 

벽면이나 화단, 기존 조경 시설 등 장소의 다양한 요소를 움직이는 작품으로 

재해석할 수 있습니다. 

따라서 설치 장소의 특성과 활용 목적을 먼저 검토한 후, 가장 적합한 작품 형식과 

설치 방식을 제안할 수 있습니다.

기술적으로는 적용 범위가 매우 넓어, 필요에 따라 수면 아래에 설치된 구조물이 

물 위로 떠오르듯 등장하는 형태의 연출도 가능합니다.

For ground-based installations, a soil depth that allows at least one 

meter of excavation is recommended. If underground installation 

is not possible,an artificial hill or raised planting bed can be created 

to house the mechanical system and sculptural structure.

“Moving Land” is not limited to the ground surface. 

Walls, planting beds, and existing landscape features can also be 

transformed into moving artworks. 

The most suitable installation method can be selected according to 

the characteristics and purpose of each site.

The system is highly adaptable and can even be applied in water 

environments, allowing structures to emerge from below the water 

surface when activated.
